Tank or tankless: start with what your home needs

Renovation Xperts Group provides storage-tank and tankless water heater installation, replacement, repair and service. Based in St. Catharines, we serve Niagara and Hamilton, including Stoney Creek and Ancaster. Tell us whether you need new equipment, help with a fault, or routine maintenance.

Choose the water-heater service you need

Tankless, on-demand and instantaneous describe water heaters that heat water as it flows. A storage water heater keeps a supply of heated water in a tank. We work with gas and electric versions of both.
  • Storage-tank installationReplace an existing hot water tank or assess a new installation. Capacity, recovery, fuel supply, venting for gas units and access all affect the proposal.
  • Tankless installationCompare gas and electric on-demand options. We review simultaneous hot-water use, supply capacity and the changes needed for a tank-to-tankless conversion.
  • No hot water or an error messageRequest a diagnostic visit for a system that will not heat, keeps stopping or displays a fault. Share the symptoms; a code alone does not establish the cause.
  • Leaks or temperature changesWater around the unit, hot water running out or inconsistent temperature needs assessment. The fault may involve the heater, its connections or another part of the system.
  • Tank-water-heater maintenanceAsk about checks and maintenance appropriate to your tank and its manufacturer instructions. The visit scope, parts and price are confirmed before booking.
  • Tankless maintenance and descalingAsk about inlet-filter checks and flushing or descaling for your model. Water quality and the manufacturer instructions affect what service is needed.

Tank versus tankless—and repair versus replacement

A tank stores hot water for later use; tankless heats it as needed, with a maximum flow capacity. Neither is automatically the best choice for every household. We consider hot-water use, installation work and the condition of your current equipment.

  • Peak demand: showers and appliances that may run together.
  • Existing gas or electrical capacity and installation space.
  • Upfront installation scope versus expected use and maintenance.
  • Repair findings, equipment condition and replacement-part availability.

Tankless does not guarantee instant hot water at every tap. Pipe length still affects the wait, and recirculation requires a compatible design. If the existing unit can reasonably be repaired, we explain that option alongside replacement.

What happens when you contact us

  1. 1

    Tell us what you need

Share your city, tank or tankless type, gas or electric supply if known, and whether the equipment is owned or rented.

  2. 2

    Confirm the next step

For repairs or maintenance, confirm the visit fee and availability. For installation, arrange an assessment of hot-water needs and existing connections.

  3. 3

    Review the written scope

Installation quotes identify equipment and included work. Repairs are explained after diagnosis, with the proposed price agreed before work proceeds.

  4. 4

    Complete the agreed work

We carry out the approved work and appropriate operating checks, then explain controls, maintenance and applicable coverage.

What to look for in your installation quote

Compare the complete installed scope—not just the price of the heater.

  • Equipment: Tank or tankless, gas or electric, selected model and capacity for your household's demand.

  • Connections and access: Water connections, gas supply and venting where applicable, electrical requirements and any access work.

  • Removal and commissioning: Whether removal/disposal, testing, controls and any recirculation work are included.

  • Price and coverage: Taxes, exclusions, timing, installation workmanship and separate manufacturer equipment warranty terms.

What affects water heater installation and service costs?

An assessed installation quote and a diagnostic/service visit are different services. We explain the visit fee before booking and the proposed repair price after assessing the fault. No installation total is final until the scope is confirmed.

Tank or tankless and capacity

Equipment type, output and the hot-water demand it needs to meet affect the proposal.

Gas, electrical and venting work

Supply capacity, existing venting and any circuit or panel work may change the installation scope. Electrical work must be appropriately qualified and included or arranged.

Conversion and water connections

Changing from a tank to tankless may require different pipework, mounting, drainage or controls.

Condition and maintenance needs

Repair parts, service scope, scale, access and additional approved work affect service pricing.

We explain visit fees before booking and agree the work and price before proceeding.

Coverage in writing

Understand installation and repair coverage

Your quote explains applicable installation workmanship coverage and the manufacturer's equipment warranty separately. For repairs, any applicable parts and labour coverage is explained with the work. Installation coverage does not automatically cover an unrelated service visit.

Renovation Xperts Group is a TSSA registered heating contractor. The people doing the work must hold the qualifications appropriate to its scope.

Care and maintenance

Care that suits your water heater

Follow the selected equipment's care instructions. For a tankless heater, ask about scale, filter checks and whether a flush is due. For gas equipment, discuss regular professional inspection. We confirm what a maintenance visit includes; parts and additional repairs are agreed separately.

Frequently asked questions

What should I do if I smell gas or hear a CO alarm?

Leave the building and call 911 from outside. For a suspected gas leak, you can also call Enbridge Gas Ontario at 1-866-763-5427. Do not wait for an online reply.

Do you install and repair both tank and tankless water heaters?

Yes. We handle gas and electric storage tanks and gas and electric tankless water heaters. Share your equipment and the work you need so model suitability, service scope and parts availability can be confirmed.

Are tankless, on-demand and instantaneous water heaters the same thing?

These terms describe the same water-heater category here: a unit that heats water as it flows instead of storing a large tank of hot water. Gas and electric models have different supply and installation requirements.

Which is better: a hot water tank or tankless?

It depends on household demand, installation space, existing supply, conversion work and maintenance. Tankless has a finite flow capacity, and a storage tank needs suitable capacity and recovery. We compare options for your home rather than recommending one type to everyone.

Will tankless give me unlimited, instantly hot water?

It can heat water continuously within its rated capacity, but simultaneous fixtures and colder incoming water affect output. Hot water still has to travel through the pipes to the tap; recirculation is a separate design consideration.

Can an electric tankless heater serve my whole house?

Suitability depends on the model, hot-water demand and available electrical capacity. A whole-home electric tankless proposal may require substantial electrical work. We assess the supply and scope before recommending it.

My water heater is leaking. Does it need replacement?

The source must be assessed. A leaking connection and a failing tank are different problems. We explain the findings and whether a repair or replacement is appropriate rather than diagnosing from a photograph or symptom alone.

Do tankless heaters need flushing or descaling?

Maintenance depends on the model, water quality and manufacturer instructions. Ask us to confirm filter checks, flushing or descaling needs and the visit price. A maintenance visit is not a guaranteed repair for every fault.

Can you work on a rented water heater?

Tell us if the equipment is rented or covered by a service plan. Check the agreement and provider arrangements before authorizing third-party work or removal. We do not promise to cancel a rental contract or cover buyout charges.

How much does water heater replacement or repair cost?

Installation pricing follows an assessment of equipment and required work. Diagnostic and maintenance fees are confirmed before booking; the proposed repair price follows diagnosis. Taxes, exclusions and any extra work are explained in the quote or service agreement.

Do you serve my area, and can I book urgent help online?

We serve Niagara and Hamilton from St. Catharines, including Stoney Creek and Ancaster. Call (905) 977-2220 and press 2 to confirm current availability. Submitting the form starts an enquiry and does not dispatch a technician.
