Before signing, verify five things: a valid WSIB clearance certificate, at least $2M liability insurance, an HST registration number, a written workmanship warranty of 5 years or more, and manufacturer certification for the product being installed.
Get three itemized written quotes. Never pay more than a 10–15% deposit up front, and never pay cash for a "no-HST" discount, it voids your recourse entirely.

There is no province-wide siding-specific trade licence, but contractors must be registered businesses, carry WSIB coverage for their workers, and pull municipal building permits where the work requires one. Verify WSIB and liability insurance in writing before signing.
10–15% is standard, enough to cover material ordering. Anything above 30% up front, or full payment before work starts, is a serious red flag in Ontario.
Three. Compare them line by line rather than on the bottom number. The cheapest quote usually excludes tear-off, flashing or trim, which reappears later as a change order.
